Mountain of Dragons and Sacrifice by Tara Grayce (Sacrificed Hearts Book 1)
Inspired by Eros and Psyche
Every year, Nessa’s village sacrifices one maiden to the dragon. One maiden in exchange for the dragon’s blessing and the hope he won’t burn the olive groves to the ground.
This year, Nessa is chosen, and she’s determined to follow all the rules: be good, do what he asks, don’t look upon the dragon’s face. But when he doesn’t eat her right away, she’s not sure what to think… and then everyone at his castle lair is kind and welcoming. Especially the handsome steward.
Life after being sacrificed is nothing like Nessa expected, and it takes her some time to accept that maybe, just maybe, she’s safe. But will she truly feel at home when even the dashing and attentive steward has secrets he won’t share?
“And I wasn’t dead. That was unexpected. I had definitely expected to be dead by now.”
~ Tara Grayce, Mountain of Dragons and Sacrifice
There are plenty of quotes that fit the more heartwarming side of this story, but I adore the light humor that Grayce always weaves into her stories. This story is told solely from Nessa’s point of view, and each chapter starts with a diary-esque aside from her.
This story fits into the same universe as The Court of Midsummer Mayhem, but doesn’t tie into the main series. Which means we get to see more of the incredible world Grayce has created, with new people, new creatures, and new wonders.
Nessa was such a fun character. I loved her attitude, and the romance was perfect.
5 Roses. 100% loved it as much as I expected I would because I love all of Tara’s books!
