Assassin of Fire and Sacrifice by Mary Mecham (Sacrificed Hearts Book 5)

Azora is a member of an elite group of soldiers from Termarth. When the Pyrenese demand a bride in exchange for a peace treaty to end the two hundred year war, she’s among the first to volunteer. Fueled by her desire to protect her people from the nation that killed her parents and protected by her own immunity to fire, she’s the perfect candidate to face the phoenix shifter prince.

But nothing about Pyren is as she expected, least of all the monster her husband was rumored to be. Can Azora stay focused on her mission? Or will her growing feelings for Tarquin blind her to the truth?

“You told me to make a choice… I’m choosing you.”

~ Mary Mecham, Assassin of Fire and Sacrifice

I’ve come to expect banter in Mary’s books and this one Does. Not. Disappoint. A true enemies-to-lovers, Azora and Tarquin start off their marriage sparring in both words and deeds. I loved how they both grew as characters individually and as a couple.

The political intrigue made for a perfect background for this story, ramping up the tension throughout — but don’t worry, the only thing spicy here was the food. I loved the contrasting cultures, and want to see even more of this world.

I adored everything about this story. Worthy to be as popular as certain other flame-related books. Have I mentioned the banter??

5 Roses. Amazing on so many levels!
A couple swoony kisses.
Some battles and injuries, but nothing overly graphic or unnecessary to the plot.
No swears.
