Princess of Mermaids by A. G. Marshall (Book 3 of the Fairy Tale Adventure Series)

A Little Mermaid Retelling

Princess of Mermaids tells the story of another princess we first met in Princess of Shadows. These novels can all be read as stand-alones, but there’s so many delightful little connections between them that would be missed if not read in order.

Princess Fiora has been rejected by both her father’s family and now her mother’s. Determined to prove her worth, she searches for someone to love her. But her past behavior means she has to hide her identity lest she be exposed as a fraud. The problem is, she’s only got three days before the spell reverses and she’s cast back into the sea forever.

King Gustave has taken the crown reluctantly, certain that his father is still alive. But with the council pressuring him to take a wife, Gustave must choose between seeking his father and unraveling the mystery of the mute girl he found on the beach.

A sinister plot beneath the waves threatens all those who live on land, and both Fiora and Gustave must look beyond their own needs if they’re to save the kingdom.

It’s not easy to take a character who we’ve previously been told to dislike and make them likeable, but Marshall pulls it off. In Princess of Shadows, Fiora is positively hateful to Evangelina, but it’s not long before we understand her motivations, and instead of wishing her a lifetime of seaweed in her hair, we’re rooting for her. The romance in this story is a delight as both characters are unsure of each other, but their inside jokes have you laughing along with them. I’m absolutely in love with this series, and I can’t wait for the next one to be released!
